Thursday 21st January 2021 saw The Future Economy Network run a workshop supporting businesses start their B Corp journey, titled “Getting Started with B Corp”. The event was well attended by a wide range of very engaged guests from across the world, including UK, US, Norway and Poland. Attendees enjoyed some pre-seminar networking in small break out groups before the event began. Our workshop was led by Andy Hawkins, B Corp Consultant at Future Leap and Chief Purpose Officer at Business on Purpose.

Katherine Piper, Director of The Future Economy Network, welcomed attendees, highlighting the benefits of joining the Network and also sharing updates about The Future Economy Network’s Carbon Neutral Hub in Bristol, Future Leap. Katherine also briefly ran through the plans for The Festival of Sustainable Business.

Andy kicked off with a 20 minute introduction into B Corp and their Impact Assessment, preparing attendees with a basic understanding of the certification and showing why such a social sustainability tool is needed. He explained his role in the process, and how he runs regular “B Corp Golder Hour” sessions to help companies become certified. This was followed by a short interview with Elle Chappell, Co Founder of Form Talent, a recently certified B Corp company who worked with Andy to complete their assessment.

After a quick tea break, Andy ran a one hour workshop taking attendees through an in-depth review of the “Governance” section of the B Impact Assessment. Attendees were welcomed to ask questions throughout, and this opportunity brought many insightful discussions and ideas to the table. There are 5 sections to the Assessment in total, and we invite attendees to get in contact if anyone would like support in finishing the BIA.

After the workshop, there was ample time for discussion, although we were unable to get through all the questions posed by our engaged and inspiring audience! Everyone was then able to network in different groups using facilitated break out rooms, before the event finished. A huge thank you to Andy, Elle and attendees of this event, without which our events calendar would not be possible.

If anyone would like support in starting or finishing their B Corp Impact Assessment to become a certified B Corp company, please feel free to get in contact with us for more information.
