Nikki Jones’ Summer Series Part 2 - “The UK’s Energy Transition” event co-hosted by The Future Economy Network and The Bristol Hotel.

 

On Thursday 1st August 2019 saw the second in our 6-part climate change and energy series delivered by Nikki Jones, independent energy researcher. It was held at the Doyle Collection’s sustainability flagship hotel, The Bristol Hotel and attended by the business community and general public alike.

Katherine Piper, Director of The Future Economy Network welcomed attendees, highlighted the benefits of subscribing to the Network and also shared exciting news about The Future Economy Group’s move to their new carbon neutral sustainability hub and updates on their upcoming Festival of Sustainable Business.

Nikki then commenced her talk on the UK’s Energy Transition highlighting amongst other things our historical energy use since the Industrial Revolution, the UK’s current fuel consumption, our Energy Revolution, the reasons for our focus on electricity, the need to exercise caution when we hear that the UK’s primary fuel consumption is on the decline, the IPCC’s predictions and the need for rapid decarbonisation, the Clean Growth Plan 2017 and controversies around gas as a bridging fuel.
