I recently considered this as I climbed a familiar track on my bike. The track is a minute from home and the start of any off-road ride for me. It is almost a mile long with an average 12% incline, often muddy and in some places 3ft deep ruts.
Mountain bikers call this a “technical” climb. Mountain biking is a rekindled passion for me. It immerses me in nature and is fantastic for physical and mental health. It also allows me to step back and reflect (hence this thought). Back to the question… The answer is YES! Enthusiasm and determination will get you there. But… and here’s the catch, not without lots of wasted energy and resource and to be honest, you’ll probably give up.
The reality of creating a sustainable business is like the “technical” climb. Enthusiasm and determination are necessary, but experience and planning are vital to get to the top. Experience provides understanding of the track – knowing where to expect the tricky bits, steeper sections, and flatter areas of the climb. Planning built upon experience allows energy to be used efficiently – selecting the correct gear at the precise time, applying extra energy at the right moments and using flatter sections to re-gain control. Creating a sustainable business is just like getting to the top of the track.
When you are there it is so worth it. Take in the stunning views, fresh air and prepare for some awesome cross country and freeriding the downhills. In a business sense this is where the benefits really begin to kick in too. Becoming a sustainable business is not so difficult, I promise! Cala Sustain brings experience and planning to you (quite a bit of enthusiasm and determination as well).
