  • Better Food has joined the growing list of local businesses benefiting from Bristol Credit Union’s Employer Partnership Scheme.

  • The partnership is based on their aligned values of fairer finance for local people.

  • Bristol Credit Union calls on other employers to sign up to support their workforce in light of the challenges posed by Covid-19.

Bristol Credit Union is delighted to announce that Better Food has joined its Employer Partnership Scheme. Employees of the Bristol-based food business will now be able to benefit from ethical borrowing and savings with the money staying in the local economy.

As part of the scheme, it is made easier for employees to develop good money habits by setting up regular savings through payroll. The savings accounts are used to help provide ethical and affordable loans at competitive rates to local members. Lower cost, ethical loans have a positive impact on the city too with more money staying and being used within Bristol directly and supporting independent business. Importantly, any surpluses which are made are reinvested into the credit union or returned to members as a dividend.

Better Food joins a growing list of local businesses which are signing up to the Employer Scheme and passing the benefits on to their employees including Airbus, Bristol City Council, Bath and North East Somerset Council, Knowle West Media Centre, Sustrans, the Soil Association and many more.

James Berry, CEO of Bristol Credit Union said:

“We are thrilled that Better Food has chosen to join our Money@Work programme offering the benefits of our alternative financial model to their employees. We’re calling on other businesses to follow their lead, which is especially important in light of Covid-19. Through this scheme, good employers can help those who may be struggling financially via ethical savings or loans with the added benefit that the money remains in the local economy as we build back better post-pandemic.”

Better Food HR Manager, Daisy Roach commented:

“As a Bristol-based ethical retailer, the new partnership completely aligns with our values, helping our employees to save and borrow in a better way. This alternative finance scheme will make a positive social impact, helping to build financial resilience, not only for our employees, but for the wider local economy too.”
