Life Cycle's "Bike Back" project teaches prisoners to fix unwanted bikes, which are sold at affordable prices to help more people travel sustainably. Help Life Cycle train prisoners as cycle mechanics by donating your unwanted bike… And you can now boost your donation by adding Gift Aid. About Life Cycle UK
Life Cycle is an innovative, Bristol-based charity that transforms lives and the environment through cycling. We believe that with the right support almost anyone can cycle - and enjoy the health, social and environmental benefits.
As well as teaching cycling skills and confidence to over 4,000 children and adults each year, our award-winning ‘Inclusive Cycling’ projects help people with disabilities, mental illness, offenders, disadvantaged children and isolated older people to feel happier, healthier, and more connected to the local community.
Our work has been recognised with the Robin Corbett Award for Prisoner Reintegration and the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service. Last year, we helped 6,748 people to unlock the benefits of cycling.
About "Bike Back"
Our innovative bike recycling project saves broken and unwanted bikes from landfill by teaching prisoners the skills to refurbish them. Inmates earn a City & Guilds qualification in cycle mechanics and the bikes are returned to the community - helping more people to unlock the benefits of cycling.
“I’m so much more confident in myself. I can focus better and I feel great that I stuck to it and achieved my goal. I now want to work in the bike industry or volunteer for a bike project” – Anthony, prisoner (name changed)
“It's allowed me to cycle to work instead of driving. I feel I'm helping the environment, being healthier, and by buying from Life Cycle I'm helping the charity to continue” – Pat (name changed), bike buyer.
