Café and Catering Manager, Future Leap

We are looking for a confident, experienced hospitality all-rounder to manage the café at The Future leap sustainable business hub. The café is open to the public but will also be servicing a large number of internal customers (based at our sustainable co-working space) and providing catering for private events and external business customers.

The successful candidate will be given a large amount of managerial and creative freedom to design and produce menus, plan events and implement sales strategies, therefore we need someone who is equally comfortable both front and back of house. The Future leap will seek to implement the highest standards of food sustainability, therefore a passion for fresh local produce is a must, and a strong interest in general principles of sustainability would be highly desirable.

Along with maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness and quality control in line with EHO standards, the chosen candidate will be expected to manage all aspects of financial performance, profit margin optimisation, waste control, labour spend and cash handling, reporting to senior management on a monthly basis.

Given the brand-new nature of the business, there is huge scope for the right individual to put their stamp on the café and help drive sales and increase revenue in what is likely to be a challenging trading environment. With this in mind, we are looking for an experienced manager who appreciates the importance of great customer service and high-quality produce. Someone who understands the hands-on nature of this industry, whilst is also able to diligently control and improve financial performance.

Duties:

  • Oversee the smooth running of all aspects of the future leap café.

  • Design, plan, produce and serve high quality food that conforms to the sustainable criteria as outlined by Future leap guidelines.

  • Oversee production of internal and external catering orders and design bespoke menus for private events when required.

  • Provide high-quality espresso-based coffee to internal and external customers (previous barista experience highly desirable)

  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and food safety in line with EHO regulations.

  • Maintain and improve financial performance through profit margin control, waste minimisation and labour management.

  • Recruit and train café team members where required and be responsible for their conduct and professional development.

  • Maximise sales and implement strategies to increase revenue from both internal and external customers. 

Candidate requirements:

  • Hospitality management experience, preferably with good understanding of both front and back of house.

  • Good attention to detail, and knowledge of food safety, cleanliness and EHO procedures (food hygiene certificate desirable).

  • Barista experience and good coffee knowledge (preferably with good latte art skills!).

  • Solid financial acumen and experience controlling profit margins, labour spend and waste minimisation.

  • Creative understanding of menu design (costing, quoting, production, presentation).

  • Outgoing and presentable with an understanding of the importance of great customer service.

  • Interest in, and knowledge of sustainable practices and a love of fresh, local produce.

  • Ability to form productive relationships with suppliers, clients and colleagues.

  • Some event management experience and a personal alcohol license (desirable but not essential).

Hours: 40-45hrs p/w (5 days out of 6, Mon-Sat)

Package: 20.5k-22k p/a (DOE) plus overtime and bonus scheme
