On 17th November, The Future Economy Network ran the third in their November energy series, titled “EV’s: The Road to a Cleaner Future”. The event was attended by a wide range of businesses over a lunch time, and attendees enjoyed some pre-seminar networking in small break out groups before the event began. The event was very kindly sponsored by TLT, a UK law firm and Network member based in Bristol with key work in the energy and green tech sectors.
Katherine Piper, Director of The Future Economy Network, welcomed attendees, highlighting the benefits of joining the Network and also sharing updates about The Future Economy Network’s Carbon Neutral Hub in Bristol, Future Leap. Katherine also briefly ran through the plans for The Festival of Sustainable Business.
Firstly, we heard from Harry Thompson, Marketing Executive at Network members EcoMove. Harry spoke about the existing products available to the UK market including cutting edge and trends. He touched on changing mobility trends and the move towards last-mile products away from cars and the probable future of e-mobility vehicles in the UK. These products range from cars, public transport, scooters, e-mopeds and changing car use.
Next we heard from Alex Earl, formerly UK Country Manager at Network members Alfen and now an independent EV consultant. Alex spoke about what to consider when planning the roll-out of reliable, highly-utilised, user-friendly EV charging infrastructure. He touched on locating chargers, the different types of chargers as well as on what partnerships are necessary. He also gave an overview of the practicalities involved in delivering such projects and suggested how project timelines can potentially be accelerated, pulling on examples from both the UK and across Europe.
Lastly, we heard from Maria Connolly, Partner and Head of Clean Energy & Real Estate at event sponsors and Network members TLT. Maria gave an overview of some of the trends TLT are seeing in the EVCI market, from destination charging to highway charging networks and municipal projects. She also gave review of the key legal issues which may arise when planning an EVCI project from grid, real estate and planning to project specific considerations.
During all discussions, the audience were invited to ask questions and take part in the conversation throughout. Multiple attendees made use of the 60 second pitch opportunity, and everyone was then able to network in different groups using facilitated break out rooms, before the event finished. A huge thank you to the speakers, attendees and sponsors TLT for this event, without which our events calendar would not be possible.
