"Bristol's 2030 Carbon Neutrality Goal - Can We Do It?" 6/6 with Nikki Jones 29th August 2019

‘Bristol’s 2030 Carbon Neutrality Ambition’ afternoon event co-hosted by The Future Economy Network and Metro Bank.

  

Thursday 29th August 2019 saw the final event in our 6-part climate change and energy series delivered by Nikki Jones, independent energy researcher. It was held at the Metro Bank’s Broadmead branch and attended by over 40 people from the business community, civil servants and the general public. 

 
 

Katherine Piper, Director of The Future Economy Network welcomed attendees, highlighting the benefits of subscribing to the Network and also sharing exciting updates about The Future Economy Group’s Festival of Sustainable Business on 17th September, where keynote speakers will include Bristol City Council’s Mayor; Marvin Rees, Founder of City to Sea; Natalie Fee and Rt Hon Sir Edward Davey MP amongst others!

Nikki then led a discussion around Bristol’s carbon neutrality commitments. Included in the discussions were issues around carbon accounting, the Mayor’s Climate Action Plan, the importance of a behaviour change and communications strategy, the barriers to and technologies supporting the cutting of energy consumption, energy generation, the One City Plan, new technologies associated with heating buildings, achievements with cycling,  sustainable transport options, the circular economy and the need for strong leadership. 

 
 

The event was concluded by Katherine Piper, Director of The Future Economy Network (FEN) highlighting that FEN are taking a strong lead on supporting the business community to achieve carbon neutrality through their weekly events programme, Festival of Sustainable Business and carbon neutral sustainability hub. She also advised attendees of the Global Climate Strike on the 20th September and the wider remit of the Future Economy Group with respect to consultancy and recruitment support.
