On the 16th October, The Future Economy Network co-hosted October’s business breakfast with the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS).
The event reviewed the Climate Change Act then and now, highlighted progress made with the Clean Growth Strategy and showcased innovation in transport and energy with partners, Hewitt Studios and Riversimple.
The event was opened by Nikki Jones MSc, Freelance Researcher, who gave an overview of the UK's Climate Change Act, ten years on. She stressed the urgent need for business and government to do more to stay within our carbon budgets in the decades ahead.
Ruth Binny, Local Energy Policy Lead from BEIS then introduced the Clean Growth Strategy and how this will help business to progress their sustainability aspirations. Ruth was interested to learn where the group felt government priorities should be and led a lively Q&A session following her presentation.
Toby Smith, Hewitt Studios, then showcased their leading Modular EV Charging Hub solution, K:Port. K:Port is a scaleable solution for EV charging at an urban level, suited to being located in sensitive and prominent public environments. The K:Port EV charging hub has been developed to offer attractive, safe and sustainable neighbourhood EV charging with integrated cafe / demonstration space.
Victoria Griffiths from Riversimple presented the company’s progress in relation to their hydrogen car technology in the world. She detailed the importance of lean technologies and environmental performance and showcased Riversimple’s innovative service business model.
Finally, the Future Economy Network welcomed Wendy Stephenson from The Converging World. The Converging World is one of the Future Economy Network’s chosen charities. The Converging World Invest in renewable energy and use the returns to support reforestation and other environmental and social projects in the UK and India.
