The Role of Buildings in Sustainable Development (Copy)

  • Future Leap and Online (Hybrid) 1-3 Gloucester Road Bristol BS7 8AA United Kingdom (map)

Free to Future Leap Network members and coworkers!

With the built environment contributing to around 40% of the UK's total carbon footprint, it is paramount that we use technology and innovation to better our buildings and futureproof our cities.

How can we make our built infrastructure more efficient? What can we learn about the move towards "smart" buildings? How do we integrate people into new technology?

What can we learn about new builds and sustainable development in relation to Modern Methods of Construction, biodiversity, affordability and skills shortages?

Find out more at this hybrid business breakfast with University of Bristol and Bristol Housing Festival.

More speakers and information to be announced.

Future Leap offers a spacious, covid-compliant event space with MHVR air conditioning units which take out old air and bring new air in. We also have reduced our capacity so you can be mindful of each other's space. We ask all physical attendees to take a lateral flow test before arriving.

Government guideline and pandemic dependent, this event will take place physically and virtually. Both options offer the full event experience, including networking, Q&A and our famous 60 second pitches. Virtual attendees will need to B-Y-O-Breakfast!

If you purchase a physical ticket but the event is moved fully online, you can choose to have your ticket fully refunded or attend virtually with a partial-refund.

Chris Jones, Sustainability Manager (Energy), University of Bristol

Chris will talk about the principles of BEMS (Building and Energy Management System), the move towards 'smart' buildings and how this is part of the solution to reducing carbon. There will be a live demonstration of the University of Bristol’s BEMS system.

Jessie Wilde, Deputy Project Director at the Bristol Housing Festival will speak about how new builds are part of the crucial ecosystem of sustainable development.
